Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with far reaching views over Teesdale and Lunedale, our beautiful glamping pod is the perfect base for visitors searching for peace and tranquillity , and with no neighbouring pods or shepherds huts, you will have a beautiful spot all to yourselves .Whether you are after a romantic retreat, special occasion or just somewhere to rest your busy mind and be at one with nature, our beautiful pod has all you'll need.
After spending the day exploring the dale, sit back and relax on the decking area which has a bistro table and chair set for alfresco dining. There is a large porch area to relax outside, should it turn a little wet. We also have solar lighting to add to the atmosphere.
If the nights turn a little chilly, light the fire pit along with the snuggle blankets provided to keep you warm and cosy while listening to the owls. The fire pit has its own table and chairs and is supplied with a basket of logs and starter pack for free, further supplies can be purchased from ourselves.
The pod is has been tastefully decorated in mellow country colours and sleeps two adults over the age of 21 (sorry, no pets)
Highside is surrounded by wildlife especially in the spring summer. Here is a small list just to keep an eye out for:
Deer and baby fawn, owls, ducks, cuckoos, woodpeckers, pheasant and chicks, hedgehogs, stoats, geese, curlews, ospreys, swallows, oyster catchers, red kite, common buzzard and not forgetting our own horse Jake and Bee our collie dog.
Highside Farm is located in Teesdale, in a designated AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and is the perfect base to explore the beautiful surroundings of the local area and further afield.
A treasure trove for walkers and nature lovers alike, some of the highlights include:The Teesdale Way, The Pennine Way, Tees Valley
Railway Walk, Grassholme reservoir,complete circular walk (left), Selset reservoir, High force and Low Force.Waterfalls, Cauldrons Snout, Cow Green reservoir.Bowlees visitor centre and Gibson cave.
Weather permitting, you will be graced by spectacular dark skies for star gazing. Highside farm is in a “Bortle scale “category 1, dark skies area. Optics Box available upon request. .
Whether you're a history buff, art lover, or in need of a little retail therapy, the local area has something for you .
Our lovely pod is overlooked by Kirk Carrion, a remarkable bronze age burial site and is ideal for an evening walk to watch the moon rise, or the sun set from above (only ten minutes away). In Mickleton our local village, just 1 mile from the pod, you'll find home made stone baked pizzas at The Blacksmiths Arms . Local shopping is also available in Middleton-in -Teesdale, only 2 miles from the pod with coffee shops, a supermarket, fish and chip shop, pizza shop, as well as The Forester bar and restaurant, Teesdale Hotel bar and restaurant.
The local market town of Barnard Castle (please take your glasses) is just 20 minutes’ drive away, offering plenty of independent shops, restaurants, and cafes along with an impressive array of antique shops. The stunning Bowes Museum, internationally renowned art gallery, and the ruins of the 11th century castle , perched majestically above the river Tees, are just a few of the local gems.. .
